Minal Dakhave Bhosale is an Indian virologist who shot to fame after conducting India’s first testing kit. Born on 8 November 1988, Minal Bhosale hails from Pune, Maharashtra, India. As in 2020, Minal Dakhave Bhosle‘s age is 31 years. She did her schooling at Ahilyadevi High School, Pune and joined Pune University for her further studies. In 2009, she started working at the National Institute of Virology. In 2014, she joined Mylab Life solutions where she working as an R&D Lab Head. When it comes to Minal Dakhave Bhosle’s personal life, she is married to Pravin Bhosle on 31 May 2017. On 28 March 2020, BCC featured a story, titled ‘Coronavirus: The woman behind India’s first testing kit’, on the research and development chief of the Pune-based company.
India’s first coronavirus testing kit is here, and this woman made it happen. Pune based new mom Minal Dakhave Bhosale gave India its very first testing kit which will be now available across testing labs. Produced by Mylabs, of which Bhosale is the chief research officer, this testing kit will bring down the time taken for results to check the presence of COVID-19. As the country’s 1.3 billion people grapple with the mega challenge of a lockdown and the fear of spread, most experts say increased testing is the answer. Based out of Pune, Bhosale and her team worked hard to get this test out.
She has headed the team that was working on a coronavirus testing kit called ‘Mylab PathoDetect COVID-19 Qualitative PCR kit’. Minal, who was expecting her baby, delivered her daughter hours after getting this kit out and approved. Based out of Pune, she and her team worked hard to get this out at Mylab
Discovery. They are now the first Indian firm to get full approval to make and sell coronavirus testing kits.
These testing kits are now manufactured in India, by Mylab Discovery and have reached the market for public testing. Minal Dakhave Bhosale is the lab’s research and development officer. For Bhosale, it was a race against time, both professionally and personally. Mylab had only begun work on the kits in February, and on 18 March, just a day after the ICMR’s announcement allowing private labs to test for Covid-19, Bhosale managed to submit the kit for evaluation to the NIV.
Later in the day, she submitted the proposal to the FDA and CDSCO, an hour before she herself was taken to the hospital to give birth to her daughter. “It
